All Video Games

Back in the day, I was all about Video Games.  You name it, I wanted to play it.  I remember (now this is going waaay back) playing Atari.  If my memory serves me correctly, it was the Atari that only had Pong on it.  Haha.  Remember Pong?  A few years later, the Nintendo Entertainment System or NES came out.  It was $150.  I was in grade 4 and I had to have  one. With my paper route, I made $50 a month so it took me 3 months to save up for one but the vision in my mind is so vivid and clear of that day and my personal accomplishment of buying it all on my own at such a young age.  Even at 33, which is now 23 years later, when I want to make a purchase on credit, I often look back on that day and think twice about pulling out the plastic and realize, I did it when I was 10, why can’t I wait and save up at 33?

Once I had my Nintendo all set up and word got out at school, I suddenly had some new friends.  Haha.  I didn’t care.  I actually like sharing so it was all good.  I can’t even tell you how many hours I spent playing that thing. My friend Patrick and I would stay up all night (at his house not mine because I wasn’t allowed to stay up late) and play the whole night.  Fridays after school, his dad would drive us down to the video store were we would rent the top video games, get some pizza and play all night. Man those were good days. Not a care in the world.

Now a days though, I don’t play as much. Funny, now that I have a little disposable income and can afford to buy the more expensive video game console, I actually still prefer playing the classics.  Don’t get me wrong, I do love the advancements in the new systems compared to the first video game to come out but I love the simplicity of the old school games. I think it’s all about the time factor. One of my favorite newer games is Grand Theft Auto IV for PS3 but in the time it takes to load up the game, figure out where I left off, realize what I need to do next, I could have made it to the 3rd board of Ms Pac Man or already on the second bonus stage of Street Fighter II Turbo.  Two of my all time faves by the way.

I do travel a lot as well so it is hard to take all my systems with me from each place I go but now that I just recently bought a house, it’s time to start the collection again. I find (and enjoy) the best way to do this is look for cheap video games and used video games online.  I usually check the local online classifieds or eBay for them.  You can find some absolute gems on there sometimes. I found Toejam and Earl for the Sega Genesis online for $5 which sells for close to $40! Now that game is a classic!

Well i just got back from buying some video game accessories so I think I’m gonna go try them out. I just got the four score the Nintendo Entertainment System so I think it’s time to call some buddies over and play some Super Spike V-ball! Another amazing classic :) You can check out the rest of my site here.  Happy Gaming!
