Red Violin $5.10 Mounted in high lavish style, from the opening strains to coda, The Red Violin pays homage to the careful uses of color and composition without bothering to support these qualities with any real substance. Oh, it’s a class act on the surface all the way, while failing on nearly every other level to convince. The story tells the story, revealing precious little else. The 17th-century Cremonese inst… |

Milenio’s Feature Story On The Great Kat “double-Edged Guitarist”
Milenio’s Feature Story On The Great Kat “Double-Edged Guitarist”
“To play faster is impossible. Great Kat is the fastest woman in the world of metal. Guitarist who reinvents Beethoven with great speed. Beethoven’s Guitar Shred, a DVD which puts her virtuosity to the service of these musical geniuses, makes your hair stand on end. Her CDs are gems of virtuosity and ahead of time, always premised on speed. The guitarist makes the music flow and electrifies the senses, and she reminds us how great were those who contributed these notes to the history of music, and as with the metal, she knows how to combine them perfectly.”

Red Violin $11.36 THE RED VIOLIN follows the unusual journey of an original and unique violin as it survives three centuries, ultimately turning up at a present-day auction in Montreal. The violin transforms all those who play it into a Svengali, from traveling Gypsies to a famous concert violinist in England. The mysterious object also narrowly avoids confiscation in Communist China, and seems to always survive the different lives of those it touches. In the present day it becomes the subject of fascination for a violin historian, played by Samuel L. Jackson, who discovers that he has stumbled upon the much sought after Red Violin, leading him to consider a deception of his own kind as the film nears its climax. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. Art of Violin $22.76 Part of PBS’s ART OF series, DEVIL’S INSTRUMENT dramatically explores the heights to which the art of violin playing has been taken over the 20th century. Acclaimed director Bruno Monsaigeon–who also helmed a series about the legendary Canadian pianist Glenn Gould–brings his exciting visual sense to this program, which uses advanced video technology to restore rare film clips of some of the century’s great violin players, including David Oistrakh and Fritz Kreisler. Commentary is provided by luminaries like Hilary Hahn and Yehudi Menuhin. Copyright (C) Muze Inc. 2005. For personal use only. All rights reserved. |
