In Curtis Hanson’s WONDER BOYS, based on the novel by Michael Chabon, Michael Douglas delivers one of his most compelling performances as Grady Tripp, a disheveled, perpetually adolescent English professor amiably coasting toward a midlife crisis. On the inaugural day of his university’s literary festival, Grady’s third wife leaves him, and his mistress, university chancellor Sara Gaskell (Frances McDormand), announces that she’s pregnant with their child. To further complicate matters, Grady’s reckless editor, Terry Crabtree (Robert Downey Jr.), desperate to revive his flaccid career, arrives to pick up Grady’s far-from-finished seven-years-in-the-making follow-up to his critically acclaimed first book. As if that weren’t enough to keep him reeling, Grady soon becomes an unwilling accomplice to a canine homicide and the heist of a rare jacket once worn by Marilyn Monroe, both committed by his brightest student–the languid, slightly pathological James Leer (Tobey Maguire). Dressed in a ratty pink bathrobe and driving a stolen car with a dead dog in the trunk, Grady must now find a way to return Marilyn’s coat, write the great American novel, nurture James’s literary talents, discourage the advances of an amorous coed (Katie Holmes), avoid the wrath of a tiny James Brown look-alike (Richard Knox), and reconcile with Sara…all before the weekend is over. For those of you familiar with Boyle's Law, they shall be repeated here. For the computer industry, says Boyle's Law, the processors in the speed and half the price doubles every 18 months. This begins to flow to other areas of technology. In fact, it is going to start our consumer economy. May purchased items have now as a "throw aways", as a few years ago people would plan to buy a life for that.

One of the first and largest product categories that comes to mind is television. When you upgrade in the 70 years from a 20 "TV to a 24" TV, it was a big thing, and that television should be in your house for 20 years or more. Today, as we replace the transition to digital television people are already their first digital TV and the transition has not even been completed. Why do they do that? Simply put, the TV version of Boyle's Law.

If you have to think about lost in the last 18 months, half of their TV's Depth and consume 30% less electricity. Next year models are less than an inch thick and use 20% less energy than this year model. I've seen, a 1 / 8 inch thick TV shows. The truth is, the vocal cords are now thicker than the TV. Imaging to your local frame shop you go to your next TV frame only so it's normal look on the wall.

This happens with some other areas of technology. The problem is, there is no money in the rapidfire replacement of these systems for smaller shops. It is a miracle that Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Sears are the number 1, 2 a.m. to 3 p.m.? You can sell using their economies of scale at prices that small traders cannot touch.

Consumers will then have an even tougher choice. They pay more for the installation of a product than the price of the product when it may be a disposable Technology? Some motorized braces now cost more than the TV's. What about speakers? The video quality of the new TV's really been phenomenal. Matching the sound is still quite expensive. If the consumer is going to save the audio and learn what works or buy an inexpensive solution in a box because they know they are in less than 5 years upgrade?

Manufacturer Of course, think the low-margin high-volume approach with high volume is the method for sustainability. Dealer stuck in the middle will always be reduced, if not to the new reality.

The other side of the argument In this state, the rapid improvement requires that we not buy a quality finished product, because we know that the new model will be that much better. A VW Jetta TDI is a good example of how this process might work in a good way. A 2009 Jetta TDI will be 30% better fuel economy and offers twice the horsepower and three times the torque of 1980-model. I loved my 1980 VW diesel, mens, and no I'm sorry to see that crushed it when I was in my 2008 Mercedes M-Class, which is almost the same miles per gallon diesel come and go jump like gangbusters.

It is a fine line to walk, when you are shopping for anything in those days. Buy the quality of the products you plan to to hold for a long time, and walk on thin items you think should be replaced. How do you really want to know? Is from the side, the question is, how much should We know investing in quality, we want to sell to the same customers, a new unit in three years.

There is no doubt that the quality of low more products in the long run and help people to sell themselves feel better about the trade to the newer, better (though also lower product quality). Engineered obsolete effect, what we buy these day we do not eat. Perhaps I think of it if takes a TV 2009 6 until the last few years and a 1950-TV 100 years, which is a of better quality? Would you trade in your HDTV for a 1950's black and white, which will last forever?
